4 Ways Work Could Be Causing You Stress

People are becoming more and more stressed at work, and it is causing a crisis when it comes to management and ill health. Businesses are suffering because workers are having to take time off due to stress-related sickness, and the ironic thing is that it’s the job that is causing it. Therefore, when they are away from the job they start to feel better, and when they return the old problems return too, and the problem just keeps going on and on. If this is the case, then it is clear that the job you are doing is not the right one for you, and it is time to find another that won’t make you so stressed.

If you aren’t sure whether stress is what your problem actually is, here are some ways that work could be causing it; you might recognize your own situation here.

Poor Organization

A poorly organized workplace is one of the things that can cause stress to workers, and that might even result in someone needing to claim workers’ comp. If you need to take this step, you can read more here. If a workplace is badly organized, workers won’t be able to find what they need to do their job properly. This might be important documents, it could be useful stationery, it might even be the right tools to make a cup of coffee or have a glass of water. If you can’t find what you need and can’t complete the job you have been tasked with in a timely manner or to a good standard, you might be disciplined. Even if you’re not, the situation is a stressful one.

Being Overloaded

We’ve all been in a situation when we have enough work to do, and then we’re asked to do more. This is not such a bad thing if it only happens every once in a while (although it’s better if it doesn’t happen at all); a little overtime now and then isn’t too harmful. However, it is it a consistent issue and you are always asked to do more than you have time or capability to do, you will, of course, become extremely stressed, and could need to take time off because you are burning out.

Work Relationships

It’s impossible for everyone to get on well with everyone else, but in a work environment, it’s important to at least tolerate the others around you so that you can all be adult enough to get your jobs done. Sometimes this is not what happens, and the bad feelings between work colleagues can leach over into the work itself. Having to go to the same office each day where you are having an argument with someone, or you’ve had a falling out with a one-time friend is stressful.

New Management

Having a good manager is all-important at work. Even if we have authority to work in our own way on our own time, having a manager to ask questions of and to receive instructions and praise from is essential; this creates good morale and a sense of stability. A change of management might be another cause of stress because the uncertainty of who you will have as a boss and what they will be like is worrying, especially if you felt happy with the person who was there before.
