And, this is especially true when it comes to things you have done in the past. To help you out, this post will be going through some of the areas of your past that could have a negative impact on your business.

Business rise and fall based on trust. If people fall out when working together; it can be hard to restore the bond. And, this, is even more, the case when you don’t know the people you want to work with. If they found out that you have something dodgy in your past; it will be impossible for them to trust you. Having kept the information to yourself initially, they will see this as a sort of lie. And, this is never good between businesses. So, you need to pick and choose what you tell them carefully. And, in some cases; full disclosure will be necessary.

An area that can be particularly hard to keep hidden is your criminal record. For one, it will be easy for business partners or other associates to find out if you have sexual or violent convictions. This information can be obtained by anyone, in most places. So, you may have to be honest about things like this before you start. In some cases, criminal records could affect you in other ways, though. For example, some drug convictions could prevent you from traveling for business trips. If you have convictions like this; it’s best to find out more from a drug lawyer. This way, you’ll get the perspective of someone who understands the law in your country.

Next, you should be considering your personal financial record. In a lot of places, if you’ve been bankrupt; this will be on public record. This information follows you for your entire life. And, it’s usually best to be open about it. This way, you will avoid it being a surprise. When people are thinking about investing or working with you, it’s not uncommon for them to perform background checks. If you have a financial record that shows unreliability; you’ll probably struggle to get help.

Like your financial past, investors and partners could also look into your business history. If you haven’t worked for someone else for a long time; you business history acts almost like a combination of your resume and references. It will form a large basis for people working with you to decide if they trust you. And, it will prove your effectiveness when it comes to business. Often times, you will only be able to hide information like this if you actively lie. So, it’s essential that you give it out freely.

Hopefully, this will give you a chance to clean up your past a little bit and make it more presentable. Your past will have a large impact on people’s opinion of you. And, it will make people feel like they can’t trust you; if your history is largely negative.
