Business: How To Combat Against Thievery

Prevent Thievery

One of the most common ways to lose money in business is for it to be stolen away. It should come as no surprise that some “customers” are prone to stealing if you haven’t taken the time to ensure it doesn’t happen. There are a number of ways you can protect your business and reduce the risk of thievery. Let’s go through a few of them now.

Audit Your Stock

You’ve likely got a vast amount of stock, particularly if you’re a retail-based business. The best way to ensure nothing goes missing is to do a regular audit. The best way to get involved in this is to buy software that is compatible with your chosen barcode solutions. Then, you can scan those products into the system and keep a regular track of the amount of stock you have. As long as you do audits on a regular basis, you should be able to recognize if you’re losing any stock over a period of time.

Security Measures

The way you install security depends on the type of business you are. If customers are regularly entering your store, you’re going to want to install alarms and security cameras. Anything that can deter thieves is important to consider. If you’re based in an office, the same sort of thing applies. If, however, your products are entirely online-based, think about the security you’re placing on them. For example, if you’re selling software, is it DRM-protected? Are people pirating it and trading it free on the Internet? Find out.

Install A Safe

There are important items in your business that you can’t afford to be stolen at any cost. I’m talking spare keys, money, and incredibly valuable goods. In this case, it’s best to install a safe in your premises. You want something that is impossible to break into, so take the time to research the best safes on the market. Put everything in there at night or even during the day if you want to. Because of this, you shouldn’t have to worry, even if a break-in does occur.

Be On The Lookout

Of course, there’s no substitute for the power of your own two eyes! Always be on the lookout to see whether any strange activity is taking place. Are people hanging around the blind-spots of your shop far too long? Go and check it out. Are there any signs that someone has tried to break in overnight? Start looking at what might have happened. You’re also going to need to implement the tips we’ve mentioned alongside this if you want to catch those would-be thieves.  Always be aware that something like this could be going on.

Don’t get too worried! 99.9% of people have no intention of stealing from you, but you still need to make sure you’re putting the right measures in place. By doing this, you shouldn’t have to worry about theft at all. Now, you can focus on making profits and turning your business into a successful, thriving company!
